A Palestinian-American who was shot and severely wounded by settlers near Ramallah in the West Bank on Wednesday succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.

The victim, 19-year-old Nasrallah Abu Siam, was laid to rest in his hometown of Mukhmas.

On Wednesday (February 18), the Palestinian Red Crescent reported that settlers raided the village of Mukhmas in the central West Bank, shooting and wounding three Palestinians, including Abu Siam. Settlers reportedly raided the outskirts of the village, stealing dozens of sheep from residents’ farms.

After shooting Abu Siam, the settlers “crowded around him, hit him with clubs and stones and nearly killed him,” an eyewitness who spoke to Haaretz on Wednesday said. “They behaved like animals. There was no humanity in them.”

According to him, soldiers who arrived in the village drove the residents away from their homes and threatened them while stealing their sheep.

“The soldiers watched them and did nothing except throw tear gas in our direction. It was terrible,” said the witness.

The IDF said that soldiers came to the scene following a report of clashes, adding that it isn’t aware of any army shooting during the incident. However, the army did confirm that crowd control measures were used at the scene. “The incident is being investigated,” it said.

Footage from the incident shows settlers raiding the area between houses in the south of the village, with at least one of them holding a long-barrelled firearm and threatening the residents, some of whom are carrying wounded people.

Other footage shows a masked settler taking sheep out of a pen, and in another, a long convoy of sheep is seen being led out of the village. According to Palestinian reports, the settlers stole more than 300 sheep from the area.
