An Israeli settler was filmed kicking a Palestinian man who had been arrested and pinned to the ground by soldiers near the village of Shuqba, outside Ramallah in the West Bank.

The Israeli soldiers present, some of whom belonged to an IDF West Bank unit made up of local settlers, witnessed the incident but did not intervene.

The IDF said that “the conduct of the troops is under review, including the arrival of reservists and actions taken without authority. Steps will be taken according to the findings,” the IDF said.

The settler seen in the footage arrived at a checkpoint near the Palestinian village where parents come to collect children returning from school. He was riding an ATV, one of many vehicles of this kind that have been distributed to farm outposts by the Settlements Ministry and the Defense Ministry.

The settler is seen yelling at families at the checkpoint, with children fleeing in the video.

According to the IDF spokesperson, additional IDF forces were then dispatched after a report of “Palestinians walking through a military checkpoint on foot and of friction that developed between the Palestinians, reservist soldiers, and an Israeli civilian.”

The IDF soldiers detained five Palestinians, one of whom is seen being kicked by the settler.

Since the beginning of the Gaza war on October 7, 2023, thousands of settlers were called up for reserve duty in defense battalions and emergency security squads. About 2,500 of them remain on active reserve duty currently.

Since their mobilization, the IDF has handed out thousands of weapons to them. In the months since large numbers of settlers joined these units, videos and testimonies have accumulated documenting their involvement in violence, threats, and the destruction of Palestinian property.
