“She was shot in the head. She was in the prayer area memorizing the Quran.” Samoud Al-Rabai’a said her daughter Saba al-Hashash died after Israeli forces shot her on Saturday, August 8, as she went to recite to her Quran teacher in Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis, in Gaza.

“Everyone in the mosque was a child, no older than 15, along with their teacher,” she told Drop Site, describing Israeli tank and quadcopter fire directed at the prayer area. “Why target children? Don’t they know where they’re shooting?”

Saba was the second of Samoud’s daughters killed by Israeli fire. Her other daughter was five years old and disabled. “She was sitting in a wheelchair beside her father. A bullet went into her heart.”

Najwa Abu Rabi’ said Saba had come home, eaten and gone to recite the Quran. Shireen Abu Rubi’a described bullets striking children “while they’re playing or eating,” asking: “What are you supposed to do? Hide behind the curtain 24 hours a day?”
