NEWS & HEADLINES FROM GAZA:
For some basic info on the Palestine-Israel conflict, go here. For more critical context, skim this, this, and this. To read about a remarkable but underreported, 20-month-long peaceful protest in Gaza against Israel, go here.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The number of Palestinians being killed in Gaza is lower since the October 2025 “ceasefire” began, over 300 days ago – about 4 per day, vs. over 100 per day during the 733 days of the “war.” But Israel is actively working (with Trump’s “Board of Peace“) to ethnically cleanse Gaza of its Palestinian population, even as the low-level killing continues. Genocide experts, along with organizations like the United Nations and Amnesty International, maintain that the genocide is ongoing.
At least nine Palestinians, including a woman, were killed on Wednesday afternoon when an Israeli airstrike struck the municipal police headquarters in central Gaza City. Medical sources said some victims arrived at hospitals in pieces. Among the dead was Colonel Faten al-Sahhar, who headed the women’s police force in Gaza City.
The Israeli military said the strike targeted five individuals affiliated with resistance groups, alleging they were meeting at the police headquarters. The military said the results of the strike were still under review.
A tenth person was killed in a separate strike – reportedly the fifth member of his family to be killed since October 2023.
US to provide $206M for Gaza peacekeeping force, letters show: The Trump administration has told Congress it is sending more than $206 million for a proposed Gaza peacekeeping force, the first significant funding for the stalled US plan to rebuild the devastated enclave. The State Department reportedly informed Congress it will provide $200 million for the International Stabilization Force’s (ISF) equipment, infrastructure, vehicles and operational costs, and $6 million more to repurpose US armored vehicles to support the force.
Israel admits its soldiers fired at car in which Hind Rajab* was killed: The Israeli military ordered a criminal investigation into the deaths of Hind Rajab and her family, after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) repeatedly denied** its troops had been in the area. but investigations by media and others found evidence that strongly suggested nearby Israeli tanks were responsible.
Penny Wong condemns ‘insulting’ decision to clear IDF over Gaza strikes that killed Australian aid worker: Australia’s foreign affairs minister has expressed “outrage” and will call in the Israeli ambassador over the Israel Defense Forces decision overnight not to open a criminal investigation into Gaza strikes that killed Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom. The April 2024 strike hit a convoy of World Central Kitchen vehicles, killing seven humanitarian workers from the aid group.

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM THE OCCUPIED WEST BANK/EAST JERUSALEM:
Every day, Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem endure dozens of incidents like the ones below, at the hands of Israeli soldiers and/or settlers. New HRW Report: West Bank: Israel-Backed Settler Violence Drives Displacement: HRW pointed with alarm to United Nations data showing that the average number of settler attacks per day in the West Bank has risen to the highest level on record as the far-right Israeli government continues to expand settlements in open defiance of international law. Israel allows Jewish ritual at Al-Aqsa Mosque in unprecedented violation of status quo*: Israeli police reportedly allowed settlers raiding the site on Sunday to bring in Jewish prayer books and perform group prayers. While such practices have occurred in the past, they have largely been carried out without official approval. The decision to officially permit them marks a significant shift.
*NOTE: Anyone can visit the Al Aqsa Mosque grounds (known to Jews as the Temple Mount) but only Muslims are allowed to pray there, according to an understanding known as the ‘status quo agreement,’ under which, since 1967, Israel has formally pledged to allow Muslims to pray at the site, while Jews pray at the Western Wall below.
In practice, however, restrictions have steadily eroded, particularly since 2023 (after extremist Itamar Ben Gvir became Minister of National Security). Israeli settlers’ actions have grown bolder and more provocative, as Israeli police have accompanied them. Many Palestinians fear this will lead to open conflict.

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM ISRAEL:
Israel is a tiny country, about the size of New Jersey, with a population smaller than the US state of Georgia – about 10 million (of which about 20 percent are Palestinians), yet it is in the news constantly. As has been demonstrated again and again, however, mainstream media rarely covers Israel news accurately. IAK gets the facts – sometimes from Israeli media sites, where we can get a glimpse inside this country that is rife with turmoil and contradictions, and that receives $63 million a day from America.
The American Jewish Establishment Is Defending an Israel That No Longer Exists: The endless rationalizations by American Jewish organizations for why an Israeli lawmaker’s latest indefensible remarks should not change anyone’s understanding of the country, increasingly look like a refusal to confront what Israel has become.

IRAN, LEBANON, & SYRIA – NEWS & HEADLINES:
IRAN
It can not be overemphasized that Israel is the impetus behind US policies and actions vis-a-vis Iran. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has been pushing the US to attack Iran for decades, using lies and deception. Under President Trump, he got his wish.

Iran eyes military targets in Europe if Donald Trump escalates war, insiders say: Two regime insiders told the FT that Iranian forces have assessed striking US assets in south-eastern European countries such as Bulgaria and Cyprus. The insiders said Iranian forces have separately examined attacking subsea fibre-optic cables in the Strait of Hormuz in the event of an escalation.
LEBANON
Israel has invaded Lebanon seven times in the last half century. Between 1978 and 2000, Israel maintained an 18-year occupation of southern Lebanon — Hezbollah was formed to fight that occupation.

SYRIA
Although Israel is not at war with Syria, the Israeli army has reportedly carried out over 1,600 violations inside Syrian territory since August 2025, and demanded the demilitarization of southern Syria – but also vowed to permanently occupy some areas.
Large Israeli Deployment Reported in Southwest Syria, Forces Push Into Rif Damasq: With growing numbers of incursions reported by Israeli forces into southwest Syria, the latest incidents are noteworthy both for being unusual in size and in one case for going far deeper into Syria than previous operations.
Dozens of Israeli soldiers, supported by at least 15 military vehicles, entered Syria Wednesday and headed into the town of Jbata al-Khashab. The troops raided and searched multiple homes en route, and captured at least two people.

Pennsylvania Dept of Education reviewing materials after complaint about antisemitism definition: Parents in the state told Jewish advocacy group StopAntisemitism* that the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s working definition of antisemitism had been replaced in the guide with the Jerusalem Declaration**, which states that “as it relates to Israel/Palestine, not all views or actions against Israel, such as supporting justice for Palestinians or opposing Zionism as a form of nationalism, are, on the face of it, antisemitic.”
*NOTE: StopAntisemitism is a right-wing organization known for launching public smear campaigns against activists, artists, and academics critical of Israel, and has been widely criticized for conflating legitimate criticism of Israeli policies with “antisemitism”. It has famously targeted beloved American children’s educator Miss Rachel for calling attention to the starvation of Palestinian children and urging the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
**NOTE: Pro-Israel organizations (like StopAntisemitism) consistently work to silence Palestine advocacy in the public sphere, violating the right of free speech. One strategy they use is to pressure institutions to officially adopt the IHRA “working definition” of antisemitism, which defines legitimate criticism of Israel as antisemitic.
Read more about the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism, which curtails legitimate criticism of Israel, here and here.
Progressives agree that the Jerusalem Definition of Antisemitism (JDA) is a huge improvement over IHRA. JDA acknowledges that support for the Palestinian cause is “not on the face of it” antisemitic; it also leaves room for opposition to Zionism, criticism of Israel, and even the BDS (boycott, divest, and sanction) movement. But the JDA still leaves much to be desired. Read about the Jerusalem Definition here.
