NEWS & HEADLINES FROM OPENING DAY AT UNITED NATIONS:

UN chief says Israeli actions in occupied West Bank raising ‘specter of ethnic cleansing’

Mass Protest Planned Against Netanyahu’s UN Speech in NYC Thursday: Netanyahu is attempting to “insult and demean the international system” with his visit, one activist said.

Trump tells UN he is undecided about “annihilating” Iran: “I have a big decision to make,” Trump said. “Will a deal be made with Iran that lets them rebuild and create a far greater country than it ever was before? Maybe one of the greatest in the Middle East or even the world, or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic and do it quickly, never giving them a chance to kill and destroy people and countries again?” (Watch Trump’s full speech to the UN here; read PBS’s fact-checking of the speech here.)

UK prime minister vows not to stand by as ‘horrific suffering continues to grow’ in Gaza, West Bank: Oct. 7, 2023 attack by Hamas* ‘does not justify the Israeli government’s actions in Gaza or the West Bank,’ says Andy Burnham.

*NOTE: Burnham’s reference to the October 7th attack conveniently ignores the reasons behind the attack, and implies that history began on October 7th – as though the Hamas fighters attacked Israel for no reason, or simply because its people are Jewish. In fact, Israel has been oppressing Palestinians since its creation in 1948, and even before that.

Hamas fighters attacked Israel after years of oppression and many nonviolent attempts to call attention to the issue. In an attempt to shame Israel into changing, the UN has passed hundreds of resolutions demanding justice – to no avail.

The people of Palestine have many legitimate grievances for which resistance is an appropriate response. Israel is, according to the International Court of Justice and other UN bodies, plausibly committing genocide, illegal occupation, apartheid, extermination, and a targeted campaign of starvation – to name a few.

International law supports the efforts of resistance groups against an occupying power, even to the point of armed resistance.

Macron says ‘credibility’ at stake on ‘shameful’ situation in Gaza: ‘War crimes have been industrialized,’ French president tells UN General Assembly. ‘It’s a new era of barbaric acts.’ Also, “We cannot simply accept this new order of impunity, which some are trying to erect.”

Note how Macron’s demand for an end to impunity contradicts his earlier act of allowing a war criminal to fly over France:

France authorizes Netanyahu’s plane to cross airspace en route to UN General Assembly: ‘This is the fifth time. It is time to put an end to this France that humiliates itself and tramples on international law,’ European Parliament member criticizes decision.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The number of Palestinians being killed in Gaza is lower since the October 2025 “ceasefire” began, over 345 days ago – about 4 per day, vs. over 100 per day during the 733 days of the “war.” But Israel is actively working (with Trump’s “Board of Peace“) to ethnically cleanse Gaza of its Palestinian population, even as the low-level killing continues. Genocide experts, along with organizations like the United Nations and Amnesty International, maintain that the genocide is ongoing.

Three Palestinians were killed and several others injured on Tuesday evening when an Israeli drone attacked residents in the Tuffah neighborhood, northeast of Gaza City, amid ongoing Israeli violations of the “ceasefire” agreement.

They see them, then kill them: Israeli quadcopters track, deliberately target civilians in Gaza: Israel employs military technology capable of identifying specific individuals, tracking their movements, and striking them with precision, despite the clear civilian status of those targeted and their non-participation in hostilities or posing of any imminent threat to Israeli forces or others.

8 nations urge Israel to fulfill commitments under 1st phase of Gaza peace plan*: The countries are Turkiye, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

*NOTE: According to the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement, signed by Hamas and Israel on October 9, 2025, the IDF was required to withdraw troops to specified lines and not return; all military operations were to be suspended; and Israel was to begin allowing entry of at least 600 truckloads of humanitarian aid per day.

Today, Israel has not only not withdrawn, it is holding more of Gaza than before – from 53% to approaching 70% (with possible plans for 100%); military operations have continued, with almost daily attacks and at least1,394 Palestinians killed. On average, only 69 trucks entered Gaza per day in July and August 2026.

The flow of aid trucks into Gaza, week by week, since the UN-2720 mechanism began on 19 May 2025. The pre-genocide average was 3,500 trucks per week.

Winter could turn Gaza’s treacherous, war-damaged buildings into deathtraps: Civil Defense crews were deployed at four separate building collapses in the space of just 72 hours during the season’s first major rains last week.

In August, the UN said Israeli authorities had twice rejected requests for delivery of nearly 37,000 pieces of timber and 660 emergency shelter kits on security grounds.

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM ISRAEL:

Israel is a tiny country, about the size of New Jersey, with a population smaller than the US state of Georgia – about 10 million (of which about 20 percent are Palestinians), yet it is in the news constantly. As has been demonstrated again and again, however, mainstream media rarely covers Israel news accurately. IAK gets the facts – sometimes from Israeli media sites, where we can get a glimpse inside this country that is rife with turmoil and contradictions, and that receives $63 million a day from America.

Israeli newspaper says Netanyahu’s plane may avoid New York airport amid concerns over Mamdani: Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Monday that Israeli PM Netanyahu’s plane will not land at John F. Kennedy Intl Airport in New York during his visit to the US on Thursday, amid concerns that Mayor Zohran Mamdani could order the plane to leave immediately. The plane is expected to land instead at a military base in New Jersey or at Newark Liberty Intl Airport instead of JFK.

The newspaper quoted unnamed informed sources as saying: “Netanyahu decided to significantly shorten his visit to New York and will not stay overnight there because of concerns about protests.”

US eyes $10bn fund to rebuild war-battered Gulf infrastructure: Washington is seeking to funnel $5 billion into a fund to rebuild Persian Gulf energy infrastructure damaged during the seven-month war on Iran and reduce its partners’ reliance on the Strait of Hormuz. The US would seek an equal $5 billion contribution from eight regional allies, bringing the total to $10 billion.

Officials warned that rebuilding without a peace deal would be futile, as Iran could strike any new infrastructure.
