Democrats block vote on S.1 (bill for Israel) to protest inaction on government shutdown

Republicans failed to advance a bill for Israel to a vote when most Democrats voted against the move to protest what they complained was Republicans’ inaction on bills to fund the government. The vote was 56-44 against “cloture,” moving a bill to a quick vote, which requires a three-fifths vote in favor of it.

The bill, S.1, would give Israel billions of dollars, work to undermine BDS, and take additional pro-Israel measures.
