If Americans Knew is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to informing Americans about Israel-Palestine. We particularly focus on information largely omitted from mainstream media coverage. (For statistics, history, and context see our main website.)
On this site we post news and analysis from diverse sources; such posting does not necessarily imply endorsement of the source or the author. We also post occasional action items from and about our organization.
Our organization was founded by journalist Alison Weir, following a trip as a freelance reporter to Gaza and the West Bank in early 2001; she has since researched this issue intensively, travelled to the Middle East every few years, and has written a best-selling book on the history of the US-Israel relationship.
Our mission and statement of principles emphasize that we believe in the right and need for all Americans to receive the facts on this issue. We oppose bigotry of all kinds, including anti-Semitism, and deplore the use of false accusations of “anti-Semitism” to attempt to silence full information about Israel-Palestine. Because much information we post comes from Israeli and Jewish publications, which cover Israel-Palestine extensively, many of these posts discuss the Israel lobby and Jewish connections to the issue. Therefore, we would like to clarify that while virtually all mainstream Jewish-identified organizations support Israel to some extent or another, Jewish-American
It is our view that when Americans of all ethnicities, religions, races, and political backgrounds know the facts on this issue, we will work together for rational, moral U.S. policies aimed at bringing peace and justice in the region and the world, and safety for Americans.
